The News Room...

The Main Muse and I celebrated my eightieth birthday in the News Room. It's my workspace, actually, but it's where we stream the nightly PBS NewsHour, so we call it the News Room.

The Big Eight-Oh party we were anticipating a year ago didn't happen. We've had our vaccine but some of my friends, either through lack of opportunity or lack of smarts, haven't. I have few enough friends as it is. Can't afford to lose any.

Henry's books.

  1. I know people who are all alone and don't want to risk horrible side effects. In my area many I know were paralyzed for a week, some in unbearable pain, some quite sick after the second shot. One passed out in the bathtub and would have drowned if his wife hadn't found him in time. Lack of smarts is unnecessarily judgmental.

    1. I know people who have died of Covid, which has horrible side effects, too, and is much more likely to disable or kill than vaccines, even in Rockport. I'm sorry I've offended your sensibilities. I respect your opinion on many things, but here we must disagree. I believe getting vaccinated is the most logical and socially responsible response to Covid 19.

    2. What if a person lives all alone and they have a bad reaction and die BECAUSE they live alone.

    3. This has happened to people in the area where I live. What do you suggest they do in that case if you feel they should have the shot? Hire someone to stay with them. Admit themselves to a hospital. Sleep on the sidewalk so someone will find them in time? A man told me yesterday that he fainted in the full bathtub and was drowning. But his wife got there just in time. Another was paralyzed and living all alone. Couldn't move . People who have people to watch over them seem to not get that some people are in danger alone, especially in a situation like this which I heard about this weak. Scary. Another person here was in unbelievable agony and couldn't get up. He peed his pants and cried out all night in fear. Fortunately, he made it through.

  2. I haven't had the shots because I live alone. Another healthy woman who lives alone had the second shot and died in the middle of the night.

  3. To clarify here, I am not talking about single people who can spend the night with friends or family. I am talking about that rare breed who have neither because they are impossible creatures, poor and or living in an unfriendly keep to yourself society. My state is rated the unfriendliest in the country. So there have been many sad cases that I have heard about as mentioned above.

    1. I understand what you're telling me, Meadow. I'm not heartless regarding these situations, but I'm convinced the risk from Covid is much greater, and the effects much more devastating, than with vaccines. I have fewer friends today because of Covid. None I know have been lost to vaccine. I don't want to lose any more. We can continue this conversation privately, if you like.
