Recollecting...

On a rainy November evening, recollecting where I started writing my first novel, the night Callie and Dave invited us to dinner at Zuma Coffee and the fiddler woman sang. Over the next year, a few hasty scribbles on a napkin grew into The Summer Boy. It's still in print.

Any of you writers out there remember where you began your first book?

  1. Good Morning! I have not written a book but I have written three or four short essays...I do remember that the idea for two of those began at a soup kitchen where I was volunteering at the time. I took a creative writing class around that same time and that is when I actually starting putting those ideas on paper. (-:

    1. Inspiration dwells at the corner of Nutrient and Hunger. I think you have a story right there, Marianne. Do you have anything out in print? Where can I read your stuff?

  2. Good Morning Henry! I have only been "published" in our local magazine here on long island and maybe only two or three times...I am going to attempt to resurrect the old magazines online and see if it's possible to send you a link. I do have some stories saved on a thumb drive but am not sure how to send you them from here...I will investigate! I am humbled that you want to see them and hope that they do not disappoint!

  3. There are places that hold special memory for me-- scenes from which I have drawn inspiration for a stories, or tracts of forest where I found the smallest seed of a poem. My scribbling comes in spurts sometimes, so taking out a notebook or a napkin in a cafe is something I often do. Inspiration is where you find it. Your blog is very inspiring. Thanks, Henry!
